Brave “The Beginning” Recap: Selwady, Gaziev, Amir, and Kooheji with Big Wins
Brave “The Beginning” is in the books! The event went down last September 23, 2016 at the Khalifa Sports City in Bahrain. The main feature of the night delivered a spectacular scrap for Brave fight fans as Abdulkareem Al Selwady settled the scores against his long-time rival Rami Aziz.
In a match-up that has been brewing for a couple of years, Al Selwady managed to lock in a rear-naked-choke against Aziz early in the first round. A truly exceptional performance from the Jordanian fighter who was promoted to purple belt by coach Ashraf Shishani right after his hand was raised.
In the co-main feature of the night, Daghestani fighter Gadzhimusa ‘Deadshot’ Gaziev stunned Thiago ‘Monstro’ Vieira with explosive striking midway through the first round, handing the Brazilian his first professional career loss after an 8 fight winning streak.
Vieira was initially set to face Mohammad Fakhreddine in the event headliner, before the latter had to pull out due to injury.
Egyptian fighter Ahmed Amir pulled off arguably the biggest upset of the night when he beat Richie ‘The Boogeyman’ Martinez by TKO in the first stanza. Amir made a swift comeback after being caught in a threatening heel hook earlier in the round.
In a potential fight of the night between two featherweights, Masio Fullen emerged victorious in the dying seconds of the first round after a wild brawl with Abdul Muneer.
The first fight on the main card featured KHK MMA representative Eldar Eldarov (7-1) who beat Kevin Koldobsky (6-2) by way of unanimous decision after three rounds.
Also, KHK MMA and Bahrain’s pride Hamza Kooheji made his long awaited comeback into the cage defeating the Egyptian Mohammad Mashaly via north/south choke 3 minutes into the 2nd round!
Ivan Lopez submitted Jessie Rafols to win his promotional debut at Brave Combat Federation via rear naked choke in the first two minutes of round 1!
Mohammad Farhad scored an impressive TKO win over his Moroccan opponent Badr-Eddine in the 2nd round of their fight.
Stephen Loman outlasted Frans Mlambo, winner of last years International Mixed Martial Arts Federation’s amateur championship in Las Vegas in the 2nd bout of ‘Brave: The Beginning’ during which both fighters putting on an instant classic!
In the first ever Brave Combat Federation fight, Mohammad Atif fighting out of KHK MMA faced Sunny Khatri and put on a striking show to earn a well-deserved victory in front of his hometown crowd!
