Football is a wildly popular sport in Bahrain, and the Rugby Football Club is doing its bit to keep that tradition alive.
The Bahrain Rugby Football Club is a social and sports club at the heart of the Bahrain expatriate community. Without losing its roots in rugby football, it is the perfect venue for sports enthusiasts, both players and spectators. It has a range of impressive sporting and dining facilities, where you can go for rugby, football, netball, swimming, or steak and tapas fix!
Social and sports members alike enjoy the range of facilities that the club offers. Among its many facilities are a certified 25-m training pool with wide surrounding areas most popular with the club’s many sun-worshippers. In addition, there is a children’s pool, poolside bar, and tennis area alongside the newly-renovated gym. There are also two grass sporting pitches as well as an IRB certified 3G artificial pitch. The gym rooms, netball courts, cricket nets, and the indoor sports hall are accompanied by shower and changing facilities.
The Bahrain RFC boasts of an impressive sporting and events calendar that include festivals of music and entertainment. Sporting tournaments that showcase the various sports sections that run regularly at the club including rugby, football, netball, cricket, touch rugby, and Gaelic football are played by members of all ages from 5 years old up to 70 years old. The club is developing a strong fitness and health section that includes offering members a range of circuit and aqua training as well as personal training.
Bahrain RFC has a strong, local community feel and has close links with many Bahrain schools, businesses, and local charities. It provides facilities for schools and business sports days, training, matches, and tournaments as well as hosting charitable sporting events benefitting organisations throughout Bahrain.
The major sporting tournaments held annually at the Bahrain RFC include the 1) Bahrain Gaelic games which attract over 40 men’s and women’s Gaelic football teams from around the GCC competing in a one day tournament on all three of the RFC’s pitches. 2) The Bahrain Midnight Vets 10’s Rugby Tournament is one of the premier Golden Oldies Rugby Tournaments in the Gulf, attracting 10 (per side) rugby teams of players aged 35 years and over from all over the GCC. 3) The HSBC Junior Rugby festival is the highlight of the junior sports calendar attracting over 40 junior teams from around GCC ages five to 16. 4) The Bahrain RFC New Year’s Day touch rugby tournament is one of the most popular events in the club’s sporting calendar with families and sporting fans from all ages and abilities participating (mostly in fancy dress).
Bahrain RFC is just getting started. The facilities and structures improve every season benefitting both the sporting teams and the public. Although the heart of the club will always be Rugby Union, the improving strength of sports from all sections is very noticeable. Football, netball, cricket, touch rugby, and gaelic football have become huge parts of the club and have taken the membership to great heights
