World Beat Fitness Center was founded in 2001, but it’s story began years before that when Jane Goodwin was living in Saudi Arabia. During her 12 years in Saudi and the following years in Bahrain, Jane dreamed of a space where she could share wellness and her love for movement, group exercise, fitness, and community. Jane taught aerobics in several venues around Bahrain and, throughout this time, she collected her favorite elements from each of these places to enhance her dream.
In 1999, Jane was ready to make this dream come true and, with the support and encouragement of her family and guides, she built a place where people of all nations, creeds and color could gather to share her passion for movement, wellness and community.
In October 2001, shortly after the world was reeling from 9/11, Jane opened the doors to World Beat Fitness Center – a moment when the center was able fulfill her vision of providing a place of community and individual healing and wellness through movement.
At its inception, World Beat had three programs: Karate (Bahrain Karate Center), Jazzercise, and Belly Dancing. We now host over 10 different movement disciplines – including yoga, Zumba, Pilates, Nia and more – as well as three martial arts programs in two studios. One studio is a large and airy barefoot studio with a pine floor, the other is smaller and perfect for more intimate fitness classes.
In 2009 Jane expanded her vision of creating a space for community to gather by opening the World Beat Café, which is an oasis of calm where visitors can relax and linger over a cup of organic coffee or a pot of whole leaf tea. The Café also offers scrumptious and wholesome homemade treats, some of which are dairy and gluten-free, fresh juices and newly introduced raw food treats.
The Café also hosts interesting art events and regular instructional coffee/tea mornings.
…. And, the story continues….
